Time Management - Importance

6th November 2012

" Time Lost will never be found again"
~ Benjamin Franklin
(timeman, 2012)
As the managementstudyguide(2012) website states, Time Management "managing time effectively so that the right time is allocated to the right activity". This website further mentions that, "Effective time management allows individuals to assign specific time slots to activities as per their importance".

project-management-skills(2012) website shows that by managing the time:
  1. One can be more productive in work - helps to identify all the tasks that you are responsible for, Prioritize your tasks, Create action plans to accomplish your tasks and Track Task Status.
  2. Will have more personal time - by becoming more productive one will have the opportunity to complete more tasks during the working hours which in turn will allow a person to have more time available for focusing on your personal values which might include:
      • Family
      • Spirituality
      • Health & Fitness
    3. Will be more healthier - an effective time management helps to reduce the amount of stress and    become more healthier.

As timethoughts(2012) adds additional points to the above mentioned. The importance of time management is:
  1. Time is a very special resource which is been allocated for each and every person equally and time waits for no man. Therefore it is very important use time wisely and effectively.
  2. Time management helps you use the time that you have in a  better way.
  3. It important that one needs to learn how to make time for the things that are important. Even if you can only afford to give a small amount of time each week to your goals, you'd be surprised at how much progress you can make.
The website lc.unsw(2012) also adds that, the first step in good time management is to
  1. Prioritize work ahead. List down all your tasks from the most important to the least.
  2. Be flexible - Prepare yourself to face any other tasks that may arise in between your schedule.
  3. Be Realistic about your time and what you can do with it.
Therefore time management is extremely important to day to day lives of all individuals which leads to success in personal life as well as in career life.

The author carried out few exercises of time management.

  1. From this exercise the author realized that however much we all say "We didnot have time", this is not a true statement or an excuse anymore. Because even after doing the normal routine activities, this chart showed what a lot of time still remains for us to work. The diagram is shown below :

   2.  From the activity performed above, the most important area was done in the activity as shown below. Out of the list shown above, the author listed down each activity accordingly. And most of the activities was listed in the Urgent and Important Box.

 3. From the activities the final results showed that the author is more a "Perfectionist" where Perfectionists is when "a person who is displeased by anything that does not meet very high standards"(wordnetweb, 2012).

Although the author really doesn't agree with this result at times, she requires things to be just the way she wishes it to be.

There fore, the author realized that in order to become a good time manager she has to prioritize her work and decide the ones that are more important and perform tasks without leaving it for tomorrow as Tomorrow NEVER comes!!!!!!!!
